Definition of Contemporary Technology

The evolution of technology is growing day by day. With the advancement of technology, advanced mechanisms have been implemented to make daily activities easier and faster. The technologies that are dominant and present available are known as Contemporary Technology.

Contemporary Definition: existing, occurring, or living at the same time; belonging to the same time.

Thus, Contemporary Technology refers to the technologies of the present time that have revolutionised our world as well as the lives of people by providing easy access to data, information and different services.

Some of the examples are: E-commerce, Cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, etc.

OR,  Contemporary technology refers to belonging to the same age, living or occurring in the same period of time existing or occurring at the present time, conforming to modern or current ideas in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, Virtual Reality, e-governance, mobile computing and Internet of things.

Need of Contemporary Technology

The need of contemporary technology has arised due to the betterment it has provided in the following sectors:

  1. Business

Most of our daily life work requires the use of the internet be it shopping, paying bills, recharge of mobile etc. People are most likely to use the internet for shopping instead of going to the traditional stores. Hence, the basic reason behind the evolution of the e-commerce industry is internet penetration. Each and every thing is now available online, which has increased the need and importance of e-commerce. As the number of internet users has increased which is more likely to rise in the coming years, it is very important to have an e-commerce website for the business owners. The reason for the emergence of e-commerce can be summed as Availability, Increasing reachability, Better custom experience, Cost reduction, better marketing options, etc.

  1. Governance

This age of digital economy is continuously evolving and due to which, the concept of governance has also undergone lots of change with resulting in various questions to be answered by all stakeholders like:

  • How can the government become more responsive and accessible?
  • How can political and bureaucracy can provide better Government services
  • How can the government use advanced technologies for transferring benefits, improving health care and education.

These questions have been addressed with adoption of e-governance. The e-Governance has consequently become an accepted methodology involving the use of Information Technology for

  • Improving transparency
  • Providing information speedily to all citizens at any time of the day
  • Improving administration and bureaucratic efficiency
  • Improving public services such as transportation, power, health, water and security.
  • Accomplishing all the above in cost-effective manner
  1. Communication

One of the areas where modern technology is most important is in the realm of communication. Long ago, communicating with people outside your immediate location was a difficult process, requiring communication by physical letter and a lot of patience. The Internet has made long distances almost transparent, allowing users to correspond with people on the other side of the planet in an instant. Technology has also increased our connectivity, with cell phones and other devices providing an always-on link to the global communication network.

  1. Education

Another area where computers and the Internet have become extremely important is in education. Computers can store large amounts of data in a very small space, reducing entire shelves of reference books down to a single CD of data. The Internet also serves as a massive resource for learning, linking informational sites together and allowing the curious to search for almost any topic imaginable. A single computer could store hundreds of educational games, audio and visual lessons as well as provide access to a wealth of knowledge for students. In the classroom, virtual whiteboards can replace blackboards, allowing teachers to provide interactive content for students and play educational films without the need to set up a projector.

  1. Health

Technology has also had significant effects on the healthcare industry. Advancements in diagnostic tools allow doctors to identify diseases and conditions early, increasing the chances of a successful treatment and saving lives. Technology in healthcare is a critical player in the future of the industry. Just as technologies such as computers, mobile phones, 3D printing, big data and cloud computing have transformed most aspects of our lives over the past few decades, so they will transform healthcare in years to come. Some of the biggest developments in health due to contemporary technologies are: Trackers and Sensors which allow real time and authentic data for better diagnosis and evidence based treatment over time, Augmented Reality which give surgeons unprecedented access to the inner workings of a person’s body,  Virtual Reality, Chatbots, etc.

  1. Scientific Research and Innovations

No  human, or team of humans, could possibly keep up with the avalanche of information produced by many of today’s physics and astronomy experiments. Some of them record terabytes of data every day and the torrent is only increasing. The Square Kilometer Array, a radio telescope, will generate about as much data traffic each year as the entire internet. The deluge has many scientists turning to artificial intelligence for help. With minimal human input, AI systems such as artificial neural networks, computer-simulated networks of neurons that mimic the function of brains can plow through mountains of data, highlighting anomalies and detecting patterns that humans could never have spotted.

  1. Data Mining

We are presently in an information age where data is on the increase. People are always on the internet and web traffic is often enormous. The data produced by the transactions involve data and the amount of data has grown so big. The data collected can be analyzed steadily and help identify relationships and find solutions to existing problems. Governments, private companies, large organizations, and all businesses are after a large volume of data collection for the purposes of business and research development.

We can simply define data mining as a process that involves searching, collecting, filtering, and analyzing data. With this technique, we analyze the data and then convert that data into meaningful information. This helps the business to make accurate and better decisions in an organization.Data mining helps to develop smart market decisions, run accurate campaigns, make predictions, and more.

  1. Entertainment

Digital technology has made it possible to enjoy music, videos and games anywhere, anytime. It has changed how we create, distribute and consume all types of media content, the way we connect, learn ,work and play. This is one of the most important factors that influence entertainment and leisure activities. It has become more affordable, accessible and convenient to learn and have fun.The entertainment industry has undergone  a remarkable technological transformation over the last few years. It’s no longer limited to traditional media like TV, radio and film. It now includes virtual reality(VR), augmented reality(AR) and mixed reality( MR).
